Fans will want to see Luiz start but Chambers deserves to keep his place in the Arsenal team
New signings always generate excitement amongst fans. Arsenal’s of David Luiz is no different. The Emirates Stadium faithful will be eager to see the Brazilian centre-back make his debut for his new club.
Unai Emery may well hand Luiz his first appearance when the Gunners take on Burnley on Saturday. However, if the 32-year-old takes Calum Chambers’ place in the starting XI, then the Englishman will have every right to feel hard done by.

Chambers started Arsenal’s first game of the season against Newcastle and impressed with his positioning and concentration. The 24-year-old shone last season during a loan spell with Fulham. He has returned to north London ready to fight for a first team place. Chambers deserves Emery’s confidence after his showing against the Magpies. Dropping him now in favour of Luiz could negatively impact his confidence.
What’s more, Luiz has done nothing to earn a starting place in the side yet. The 56-cap Brazil international should not be offered an easy route into the team simply because he’s an exciting new arrival. That spot in the team is currently Chambers’ to lose.
