‘Fair play to Arsenal’: Some Spurs fans respond in wake of European Super League fiasco

A number of Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to slate their club’s statement in wake of the European Super League fiasco, noting how Arsenal apologised for their role while Spurs have not.

A dramatic two days in football began with Tottenham, as well as the Gunners and four other Premier League clubs, announcing they had signed up to the breakaway midweek competition.

Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool were joined by AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid.

The news was met with intense backlash as many fans, pundits, players and officials heavily criticised the proposals.

On Tuesday evening, Chelsea and Manchester City withdrew from the prospective competition and, by the night, all six Premier League teams involved had dropped out.

Arsenal were the first club to directly apologise to the fans.

“As a result of listening to you and the wider football community over recent days we are withdrawing from the proposed Super League,” the Gunners.

“We made a mistake, and we apologise for it.”

On Wednesday morning, Liverpool of John Henry apologising to the Liverpool fans.

However, Tottenham’s sole statement on the matter so far – as of 8:25am on Wednesday – remains the .

“We regret the anxiety and upset caused by the ESL proposal,” Daniel Levy .
