Fabrizio Romano says truly ‘special’ player Arsenal were ‘favourites to get’ is now closing in on Aston Villa move
Aston Villa and Arsenal are among the Premier League clubs who have been linked with Sverre Nypan in recent months.
Arsenal were confident of signing Nypan in January, but the Rosenborg prodigy opted to delay his decision after talking with a number of clubs.
Manchester City and Chelsea have also discussions with him and Manchester United were winning the race for Nypan at one point.
However, the Red Devils have backed away from a deal of late, and Villa have since moved into pole position for Nypan.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided a big update regarding Nypan’s future amid interest from Aston Villa, Arsenal and others.

Aston Villa now closing in on Arsenal target Sverre Nypan
Romano has taken to X to claim that Villa are now closing in on an agreement with Sverre Nypan on personal terms.
The transfer insider said a contract between Villa and Nypan is now “almost agreed with final details being sorted”.
Talks between Villa and Rosenborg are set to follow and the claret-and-blue outfit is “confident to get it done”, according to Romano.
What has been said between Sverre Nypan and Arsenal
Arsenal were deemed favourites to sign Nypan not long ago – indeed, the player was said to be really keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Journalist Steve Kay claimed in March that Nypan wanted a move to Arsenal, who in turn were the frontrunners to sign him.
“My understanding, talking to people really close to the deal, people closer than I will ever be, he really wants to sign for Arsenal, they’re his first choice. Yeah, for a few reasons,” Kay said.
“He’s spoken to Martin Odegaard on a few occasions, he’s impressed with Mikel Arteta and he thinks that Arsenal are the best club for him to continue his development.
“Yeah, apparently this kid could be anything, speaking to people, he is elite, he is an elite youngster.
“Some well-known top journalists who I trust greatly who I’ve spoken to say he has the potential to be world-class.
“He’s special, and Arsenal are favourites to get him, so yeah, whatever fee it will be, it will be a record fee for Rosenberg.”
However, Arsenal now look set to lose the race for Nypan, barring a late twist.
