Romano has taken to X to say Nicolo Fagioli isn’t set to move to the Premier League after all, but rather he’ll likely stay put in Serie A with Fiorentina.

Romano reported that the Viola are closing in on an initial loan deal for Fagioli which includes a buy option that will become mandatory under certain conditions.

The transfer insider also said the deal is worth €20million (£16.6million), which includes add-ons.

Later on, Romano provided an update in which he said Fagioli has put pen to paper on his Fiorentina deal.

What Fagioli could have brought to the Premier League

Tottenham have done pretty well in recent years when it comes to the Italian market.

The likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur and Destiny Udogie have all thrived since swapping Italy for North London.

Fagioli could have been a good shout as he is a creative playmaker with great technique on the ball as well as brilliant vision, great passing skills and quick acceleration.

Fagioli has earned praise from plenty of his peers, including Andrea Pirlo and Mohamed Sissoko. Indeed, Pirlo likened the Premier League target to himself in his playing days.

“The biggest leap was made by Fagioli, who made his debut with me,” Pirlo told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He knows how to do everything and is a cornerstone of Juve and has the qualities to excel in directing play.

“He could be the new Pirlo, but better remembered as Fagioli.”

Meanwhile, Sissoko said to in 2023: “We are talking about a young footballer who is doing very well.

“It is important for Juve and for all Italian football, someone like him can give much to the cause.”
