Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s heard Liverpool are targeting after missing out on Martin Zubimendi

Liverpool do not appear to be in any real hurry to get any players in through the doors this summer with the new season just hours away.

Arne Slot may have offered Liverpool with the promise of a new start on Merseyside following the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

However, the Reds are now heading into the 2024/25 campaign with the same squad – barring a few exits – as to which they ended last term.

There has now been a lot of movement in the transfer market by the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal but Liverpool are now the only side to have not signed anyone.

Liverpool were rejected by Martin Zubimendi earlier in the week which looked set to be the big move their fans had been waiting for.

But Fabrizio Romano has now offered some hope with just two weeks remaining until the window shuts.

What Liverpool are planning after losing out on Martin Zubimendi

The Reds may have suffered rejection earlier this week, but it has been claimed Liverpool could be set to make one final attempt for Zubimendi in the coming days.

It has to be said, there are also other plans on Merseyside this summer when it comes to potential signings.

But Romano has insisted Slot’s side are in no real rush to be forced into decisions as they look to add to their defence.

Liverpool did lose Joel Matip at the end of last season after the centre-back departed the club following the end of his contract but are yet to bring in a replacement.

“It was widely reported earlier in the summer that a young defender would also be on the agenda for Liverpool, but so far we haven’t seen anyone come in,” Romano said in his .

“What I can say is that Liverpool are still exploring several options on the market – they will just not sign for the sake of it, but if they find right opportunity. They keep working on ideas and options, for sure.”

Liverpool need to be planning for Virgil van Dijk’s potential replacement

Going into the new season, Liverpool have three huge names who are entering the final 12 months of their contract at the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk could all be set to leave next summer on a free.

Perhaps it is a case of seeing how the new few months go under the new manager considering all three were big parts of Klopp’s side.

But the Reds are going to have to consider the possibility of life after Van Dijk given the Dutchman has failed to rule out the possibility of leaving.

Slot does not look likely to be rushed into any big decisions, but fans will be wanting to see some new faces come through the door before the end of the month.
