Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s heard about Frenkie de Jong after claims Tottenham have launched bid

Fabrizio Romano has shared what he’s heard about Frenkie de Jong after claims that Tottenham Hotspur have launched a bid to sign the Barcelona star.

Reports emerged just yesterday claiming that Ange Postecoglou’s men had tabled a £51 million bid for the Dutchman.

It was claimed that Tottenham have offered Frenkie de Jong a four-year contract and are prepared to match the wages he currently earns at Camp Nou.

But Romano claims that he hasn’t heard anything about Spurs launching a bid for the midfielder, despite recent rumours.

Speaking to , Romano shared an update on De Jong amid reported interest from Spurs.

“There have been lots of rumours about Frenkie de Jong lately guys, but I can tell you that Barcelona will try to extend his contract in the next months,” the transfer insider said.

“They still believe in Frenkie and there’s no news on the player side so far regarding wanting to leave the club.”

He added: “Of course, if both sides can’t agree on a new deal, the situation in the summer could change.

“I’m not hearing anything on decisions made or negotiations ongoing, and I’m not aware of any Tottenham bids so far, despite the stories.”

Spurs are in the market for a new midfielder and have already been linked with a summer swoop for Conor Gallagher.

Yet, the recent links to De Jong are intriguing after the Lilywhites previously tried to sign the midfielder before he joined Barcelona.

Indeed, De Jong admitted back in 2019 that he was tempted by the idea of joining Spurs.

The 26-year-old will have two years left on his deal at Camp Nou come the summer and has already received interest from the likes of Manchester United.

But for the time being, it would appear that Spurs’ interest is far from concrete and Barca are planning to offer the Dutch star a new contract.
