Fabrizio Romano shares what he’s heard about Arsenal and Karim Benzema rumours

Arsenal have been linked with a shock swoop for Al-Ittihad’s Karim Benzema in recent days.

With the January transfer window in full swing, reports have been doing the rounds linking the Gunners with a new forward.

According to , Arsenal have joined the race for Benzema as speculation over his future at Al-Ittihad continues to do the rounds.

The Gunners are apparently considering a swoop for the striker if they can get him on a loan deal.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared what he has been hearing about Al-Ittihad’s stance on Benzema amid reported interest from Arsenal and others.

Sadly, it’s not great news- at this moment in time – for those who’d like to see the former Real Madrid star in red and white.

Romano, writing on , says Al-Ittihad are planning to play hardball over Benzema’s signature.

“From what I’m hearing from the club side, Al-Ittihad have no intention to give any green light for Benzema to leave in January,” Romano said.

“Let’s see what the situation is like in the next days and see what happens with Benzema.

“At the moment, guys, I’m not aware of any advanced deal or anything concrete with an English club – including with Arsenal, despite various rumours.”

Benzema joined the Saudi Pro League club last summer, but according to , he is not happy with how things are going.

The report also says the 36-year-old has been criticised in the Saudi press for his performances, despite scoring 15 goals in 24 games.

Al-Ittihad won the title last season, but have struggled this term and are seventh in the table, 25 points behind leaders Al-Hilal.

The Independent’s report claimed that Benzema believes a move to England is a possibility.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could do with an out-and-out finisher to bolster their ranks, so you can understand the links between the two parties.

And with Jordan Henderson having left Al-Ettifaq to join Ajax, it remains to be seen whether other players in the Saudi Pro League could follow suit.

However, if Al-Ittihad are unwilling to do business, then there’s not much the Gunners – or any other suitors – can do.

In addition, Benzema is reported to be on a staggering £3,580,776 a week at the club (). Obviously he’d need to take a huge pay cut were he to leave the Saudi Pro League.
