Fabrizio Romano shares potential unexpected twist as Newcastle eye agreement for Marc Guehi

Newcastle United got their 2024/25 campaign off to a winning start on Saturday in a narrow 1-0 victory over Southampton.

Eddie Howe‘s side were able to get the job done despite playing the majority of the game with 10 men after Fabian Schar’s controversial sending off.

The Toon may have put three points on the board, but the focus still remains on the transfer market at Newcastle.

It has been a seriously underwhelming summer for the Magpies who are yet to welcome a big arrival on Tyneside.

Newcastle are showing a real interest in Marc Guehi and have proposed four separate bids for the Crystal Palace defender.

However, they have been unable to find a breakthrough as Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the situation.

What is the latest with Newcastle’s Marc Guehi interest?

The Magpies launched their latest bid for Guehi just before the weekend ahead of their Premier League opener.

However, Palace have since rejected that latest offer with the Toon now less than two weeks away from deadline day without a real breakthrough in their pursuit of the England international.

Following the victory over Southampton, Romano has now shared an update about what is set to happen over the coming days in the negotiations between the two clubs.

And it seems as if Palace are now lining up a new deal for Guehi in case he does not end up joining Newcastle over the summer.

“There’s still no agreement between Newcastle and Crystal Palace over Marc Guehi, the reports are accurate,” Romano said in his .

“Newcastle still want to sign Guehi but there’s still no agreement and so this week talks will continue to understand if they can find a way or not.

“In case Guehi stays, Palace have prepared new deal proposal for him.”

Newcastle now need to make big decision on Marc Guehi

Less than two weeks remain until the window shuts for the summer and Newcastle’s business leaves a lot to be desired.

This deal is now at a point where Newcastle either need to just go all out and bring Guehi in or walk away now and find an alternative.

It is believed Newcastle are monitoring Logan Costa as a potential Guehi alternative for if they are unable to land a deal with Palace.

An interesting few days lie ahead of Newcastle which could be definitive to the success of their summer transfer window.
