Fabrizio Romano shares Memphis Depay update amid Tottenham links

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Barcelona’s Memphis Depay in recent months.

In December, claimed Spurs were one of several Premier League sides eyeing the Netherlands international.

As well as Tottenham, the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle and West Ham had apparently spoken to Depay’s camp.

However, it looks as though Spurs – and every other Premier League suitor – is about to miss out on the Barca forward.

Atletico Madrid looks like Depay’s next destination. And Fabrizio Romano has just provided an update on Twitter.

The transfer insider claimed that the deal was at the final stages, with Atletico set to pay around £2.5million for the Dutchman.

Depay “only wanted Atletico” as his new club, added Romano, who finished off by saying “here we go expected soon”.

Tottenham have reportedly been looking for attacking reinforcements this month.

The likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison and Son Heung-min have all spent time on the sidelines.

And it’s not been a great season for Tottenham, who now face a big battle just to finish in the Premier League top four.

Depay would’ve been a decent shout for Antonio Conte’s Spurs.

He has rebuilt his career since leaving the Premier League after his Manchester United spell.

Depay is a ‘‘ forward who certainly had a good opportunity to prove himself in England once again.

His Barca contract runs out in the summer, hence the low transfer fee.

Depay wasn’t getting much game time under Xavi, so he’d have certainly been available this month.

And at 28 years of age, he’s got the experience to get up to speed quickly at N17.

However, if Depay only ever wanted Atletico, then there’s nothing more that Spurs could’ve done.
