Fabrizio Romano shares Khvicha Kvaratskhelia update after claims Liverpool asked about signing him

Liverpool target Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has become a star.

The Georgia international has been unbelievable for Napoli for a couple of years now, and he is now starring for his country at Euro 2024.

Kvaratskhelia produced one of the performances of the tournament against Portugal on Wednesday night. He scored a goal and was on another level as Georgia picked up a shock 2-0 win.

The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Napoli this summer, and Liverpool are among the clubs said to be interested in signing him.

However, Fabrizio Romano has some bad news for Reds fans.

Fabrizio Romano shares the latest on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s future

Kvaratskhelia has many, many admirers.

The Georgian is up there with the best left-wingers in Europe. He’s quick, good on the ball, is an incredible dribbler and has shown that he can directly contribute to goals.

That has made him a wanted man this summer, and reports have claimed that Liverpool have enquired about signing Kvaratskhelia in this window. French champions Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing him.

The forward’s agent has come out and claimed that he wants to leave Napoli too, which, at the time, was good news for clubs that wanted to sign him.

However, Napoli boss Antonio Conte publicly claimed on Wednesday that Kvaratskhelia will be staying beyond the end of this summer’s transfer window ().

Romano has now all but confirmed the above, and he has also revealed that Napoli are about to offer Kvaratskhelia a brand-new contract to keep him at the club.

Speaking on , Romano said: “Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – Napoli have no intention to sell him. Today (Wednesday) Conte was very strong in his sentence and also the president, De Laurentiis. So, Napoli have no intention to sell him.

“I think it’s going to be very, very difficult, almost impossible now for PSG to change the story. It has to be something completely crazy.

“Also in the next hours, Napoli will offer a new contract for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. It’s going to be a long-term deal with a release clause and with a higher salary – around €4-5 million net per season.

“So, a really important salary for Kvaratskhelia. Napoli are preparing a new contract and Napoli want him to stay. So I expect Kvaratskhelia to stay.”

Why Liverpool want to sign Kvaratskhelia

Liverpool have plenty of options on the left wing.

Luis Diaz is probably the first choice there, while Diogo Jota has produced some excellent performances on the left too. Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez can both play in that position for the Reds.

However, as good as all of the above are, there have been some issues.

Diaz can be really frustrating at times, Jota had multiple injury issues, and Gakpo’s output isn’t great. Nunez, on the other hand, is expected to play as a striker more often than not.

That’s probably why Liverpool are interested in signing Kvaratskhelia, who scored 11 goals and provided nine assists in the 2023/24 season and 14 goals and 17 assists in the previous campaign, mostly playing on the left flank.

He would be a great option for Liverpool, but as things stand, it looks like he will not be leaving Napoli this summer.
