Fabrizio Romano says ‘world-class’ player has just completed his medical at Arsenal

All associated with Arsenal will certainly be on a high right now after victory against Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Mikel Arteta stopped his losing run against Unai Emery and Arsenal secured three vital points in their pursuit to beat Manchester City to the title.

Despite only being in game week two, the Gunners already can’t afford a slip up given how relentless Pep Guardiola’s team are at winning.

Fortunately, Arsenal are now excuding the same kind of title-winning energy in their performances, evidently confident that they can achieve something special.

That being said, Arteta still had David Raya to thank for saving his side from one or two hairy moments.

Leandro Trossard was amazed by Raya’s performance, which included a save against Ollie Watkins that will live long in the memory.

That being said, it seems as if Arsenal may now have a boost when it comes to welcoming Brighton & Hove Albion to the Emirates next week – they might have a new star to make his debut.

Mikel Merino has now completed his Arsenal medical ahead of £27m move

Arsenal’s pursuit of Mikel Merino almost feels as if it’s lasted as long as their losing run against Aston Villa of late, but fortunately both are now coming to a conclusion.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has just shared news on X detailing that Merino has now completed his medical and will soon officially be an Arsenal player.

Romano reiterated that the deal will cost Arsenal around £27m initially before add-ons.

He shared: “Mikel Merino has completed his medical as new Arsenal player with clubs exchanging documents, deal being sealed.

€32m fixed fee, €5m add-ons and contract until June 2028 plus option for further season.”

Of course, it will be interesting to see how Arsenal line up with Merino in their squad.

Thomas Partey enjoyed a more complete showing against Villa on Saturday – he overcame some sloppy moments against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

But perhaps Arteta could still choose to drop Rice back into the six, playing ‘world-class’ Merino in place of Partey as his number eight.

Either way, Arteta will be very happy to have so many options – a positive problem as they say.
