Fabrizio Romano says West Ham interest in 19-goal striker is ‘one to watch’
West Ham have been linked with high-flying Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in recent weeks.
reported in December that the Hammers were ready to battle with the likes of Manchester United for the 27-year-old’s signature.
Guirassy has been in outstanding form this season, registering an impressive 19 goals and two assists in all competitions for his club.
This has led to interest from the Premier League, with West Ham just one of the English top-flight clubs now in pursuit of the Guinean.
Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the state of play involving the Hammers and Guirassy, and it’s somewhat mixed news.
Fabrizio Romano says West Ham like Serhou Guirassy
On the plus side, West Ham definitely like the player, and Romano – writing on – believes it’s “one to watch in the final weeks”.
However, Stuttgart don’t want to lose Guirassy yet, and the Hammers need to sell players first before they can bring new recruits through the door, said the transfer insider.
“Serhou Guirassy – Stuttgart are insisting to keep the player for six months more,” wrote Romano.
“Also AFCON doesn’t help in terms of dealing with his future this January, so that’s why it has gone quiet but interest remains.
“Guirassy will be one to watch in the final weeks. West Ham like him, but again, for them it’s key to sell players in order to think about important signings… so it’s still early.”

West Ham really could do with a new centre-forward this month. They didn’t replace Gianluca Scamacca in summer, and Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio have been filling the role this term.
However, both players – plus Lucas Paqueta – are sidelined through injury. Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana.
Although Guirassy is also at the competition, he’d be a great shout for West Ham for the rest of the season.
He is talented, prolific, in his prime years, and can be snapped up by triggering a modest release clause – just £15million, .
The Hammers are doing well in the league and Europe. This could help persuade Guirassy, who would also be in line for a lot of regular first-team football if he joins.
