‘No talks’: Fabrizio Romano has some news for Tottenham fans about ‘fantastic’ international forward

One of the more surprising transfer rumours this summer has been the mention of Tottenham making a move for Dutch forward, Memphis Depay.

It was claimed a week or so back that Spurs had indeed made an approach for Depay, who is free to leave Barcelona this summer after being told he isn’t part of Xavi’s plans. However, it’s believed Depay, at the time anyway, didn’t have too much interest in moving to north London.

In a further update from today, it was also reported how Tottenham’s board weren’t overly fussed about signing Depay either. Suggestions emerged to claim that the board had indeed blocked any attempted move for the Dutchman.

And backing that claim up this evening, to say that there has indeed been no talks between Depay and Spurs, despite the recent speculation.

Depay has seen his career come to a bit of a halt since moving to Barca. After shining for Lyon after a dismal spell with Manchester United, the Dutch forward has become a bit of an outcast in Spain.

And it seems other clubs aren’t too keen either. For Depay, it could be a long next month of the window.

TBR’s View: Tottenham Don’t Really Need Depay

Sure enough, Depay would add something to the Spurs squad if he did sign and produced his top form. But the issue for Spurs is getting that level of play from the forward.

There is obviously an element of risk in signing Depay which clubs are put off by, and it seems to be showing in that no one has taken him off Barca just yet.

Depay will probably get a move in the end. But he faces an anxious wait it seems, with clubs like Tottenham seemingly put off.
