Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham are out of the race to sign ‘sensational’ player
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have ‘gone cold’ in the race to sign one of Ange Postecoglou’s top targets this summer.
Spurs have been active in the market in this window. Timo Werner and Archie Gray have arrived, while the likes of Japhet Tanganga, Ryan Sessegnon and Tanguy Ndombele have all been pushed out of the door.
There will definitely be more movement at Tottenham in the coming weeks, but there is some bad news for Spurs fans regarding one player.
If Romano’s latest comments are to be believed, Tottenham are out of the race to sign one of the most talented players in Europe.
Fabrizio Romano shares update on Desire Doue amid Tottenham links
Desire Doue has been linked with a move to some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The teenager caught everyone’s eye with a number of stellar performances for Rennes in Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season. He is an enormous talent.
Tottenham have been linked with a move to sign the Frenchman, with reports claiming that Ange Postecoglou has made Doue his priority target in this window.
Romano revealed earlier in July that there has been contact between Tottenham and Doue’s agents over a potential move this summer.
However, there is now some bad news for Spurs fans who wanted the ‘‘ teenager at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Romano has revealed that Tottenham have ‘gone cold’ in their pursuit of Doue, and the player is now only thinking of joining one of two clubs – Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain.
Both sides have tabled a bid for the youngster, and it remains to be seen where he will end up in the coming weeks.
Romano said on : “From what I heard, Tottenham have gone cold at the moment, so the situation is more focused on Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain.
“So, these are the two clubs really pushing to sign Desire Doue. Let’s see if some other club will try to join the race. So let’s keep it open until it’s done, because the player has not decided yet which club he wants to join.
“He’s speaking to both Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain at the moment. Different projects, different ideas, different vision of the managers. So they are taking their time on player’s side and player camp and player agent to decide all together.
“But for sure, the idea at the moment is to join one between Bayern and PSG. These two clubs are really pushing. And so they are the clear favourites to sign Desire Doue.”

Four attackers Tottenham could sign instead of Desire Doue
Doue made a lot of sense for Tottenham.
The Frenchman is young, extremely skilful on the ball, can play in attack as well as in midfield and has the potential to score goals and provide assists on a consistent basis.
That’s probably why Postecoglou was really keen to land Doue, but it looks like Tottenham are out of the race to sign him now.
Spurs, however, still need a new player in that area of the pitch, and they have been linked with quite a few names in recent weeks.
A move for Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey has been described as difficult, but it has been claimed that Tottenham have a much stronger chance of signing Lois Openda, Jonathan David and Pedro Neto.
Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze has also been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham this summer.
