Fabrizio Romano says ‘really quick’ Liverpool target is now Atalanta-bound

Liverpool are set for a busy end to the summer transfer window as Arne Slot looks to get some more players on board at Anfield.

The Reds have been fairly quiet on the transfer front for most of the summer, but they’ve since sealed one signing and one more could soon be on the cards.

Liverpool have already confirmed the signing of Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will stay at Valencia on loan for the rest of the season.

In addition, the Reds are now said to be making good progress with regards to a move for Juventus star Federico Chiesa.

However, there will invariably be targets that will slip through the net.

Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that a “really quick” defender Liverpool have been linked with this summer is now set for a move to Serie A.

Liverpool target Odilon Kossounou set for Atalanta

Liverpool are said to have been eyeing Bayer Leverkusen defender and Ivory Coast international Odilon Kossounou.

It was reported in July that Liverpool were high up the list of suitors, and it was suggested that they had made an enquiry to sign him.

However, Romano has now declared “here we go” on Kossounou to Atalanta, in a loan move with option to buy.

The Europa League champions will pay a loan fee of €5.5million (£4.7million) and, should they opt to sign him, there is a €25million (£21million) option to buy.

Liverpool set to miss out on Jerome Boateng-like defender

Kossounou certainly seems to have the right attributes to succeed in the Premier League.

Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes described him as “really quick, agile, strong in the challenge” and “technically good”.

The , who relayed Rolfes’ comments, also likened Kossounou to Bayern Munich icon Jerome Boateng.

However, it looks as though Liverpool have missed out on Kossounou to Champions League-bound Atalanta.

If the Reds want to bolster their defensive ranks ahead of the deadline, they’ll need to look elsewhere.
