Fabrizio Romano says PL club have now agreed to sign £26m player Tottenham really wanted

It certainly seems as if both Tottenham Hotspur and Ange Postecoglou would be keen to add one more target before next week’s transfer deadline.

Deals for Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin have left an appetite for more and departures should have also freed up funds.

Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier have departed, perhaps with Bryan Gil and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to follow.

And whilst a midfielder seems to be the priority in the case of the latter two names departing, Spurs are also demonstrating a plan for the future.

Postecoglou has been credited with strong interest in Club Brugge’s Antonio Nusa, a winger showing a ton of potential.

Spurs have been locked in talks for the 18-year-old, with some believing that an agreement was not far off.

However, an update from may have now blown that idea out of the water.

Taking to X this morning, Romano confirmed that Brentford have now agreed to sign Nusa for £26m.

Much like Spurs’ rumoured move, Nusa will remain in Belgium for the remainder of the season, before coming to England.

Brentford agree deal for Tottenham target Antonio Nusa who Ange Postecoglou really liked

Of course, if Brentford are able to wrap up this deal, it would be a considerable blow for Spurs.

The club looked to be in pole position to complete the signing, one that would seem incredibly exciting for next season.

But as they did when signing Radu Dragusin, Tottenham now have stiff competition.

And judging by Romano’s update, it may be too late to steal the signing off of Brentford now.

Romano said: “Brentford have just reached an agreement with Club Brugge to sign Antonio Nusa.

“Deal in place for fee in excess of €30m package.”

“Green light ready also on player side, he’s staying at Brugge until June then join Brentford in June.

“Time for formal steps now.”

Therefore, it really does seem as if Tottenham may have missed out on a key target, a player who would have thrived under Postecoglou.

There’s no doubt that Brentford would also represent an excellent move for Nusa, but some Spurs fans may feel pretty disappointed.

It would seem harsh to say that Tottenham dithered with their interest, but ultimately the door was left open for Brentford.

And perhaps Spurs will now turn their attention to a Brazilian they’ve just made a bid for.
