Fabrizio Romano says ‘special’ Arsenal player now on brink of N5 exit

Arsenal have been fairly quiet on the transfer front so far this summer, but things are now starting to pick up pace.

The Gunners are said to be in talks with Bologna over Riccardo Calafiori, one of the most highly rated young defenders in the game.

Arsenal also seem to be busy on the outgoings front, and if all goes well, two players are set to leave the Emirates in the coming days.

On Friday morning, Fabrizio Romano declared “here we go” on Nuno Tavares to Lazio on a loan deal with obligation to buy.

The transfer insider has also reported on Albert Sambi Lokonga’s impending switch to Sevilla, and now he has provided an update.

Albert Sambi Lokonga on verge of Arsenal exit

Romano, taking to X in the early hours of Saturday morning, claimed that Arsenal and Sevilla have signed all the documents pertaining to Lokonga’s move.

The player’s salary will be covered by the Liga club, who have a £10million buy option to sign the Belgium midfielder permanently if they so wish.

Romano also revealed that Arsenal stand to earn 25 percent of the transfer fee should Sevilla sell Lokonga on in future.

The player will sign this weekend and all will be officially confirmed soon, added the Italian.

Arsenal still feel Lokonga has bright career ahead of him

It’s good to hear that Lokonga is sealing a move away from Arsenal, as he could do with a fresh start to get his career back on track.

The Gunners signed him back in 2021 and hopes for him were high after he captained Anderlecht at just 21 years of age.

“I think Arsenal made a good decision on him and I think he is going to be a top player for Arsenal in the years to come,” Anderlecht sporting director Peter Verbeke said at the time.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany previously described Lokonga as a “special” player.

However, Lokonga has failed to make much of an impact at the Emirates Stadium, and hasn’t even played competitively for the Gunners since January 2023.

Arsenal clearly still feel he has a bright future ahead of him, based on the 25 percent sell-on fee they’ve put in his deal.
