Fabrizio Romano says new Wolves manager Bruno Lage already working on deal to sign 28-year-old stopper
Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that new Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Bruno Lage is already working on his first signing. The on Wednesday – and Romano is claiming he is already looking at the transfer of Jose Sa.
Lage, 45, has joined Wolves after a largely successful stint with Benfica in which he won 51 of his 67 games in charge. He left the Portuguese outfit last summer and has been without a job since – but has now been confirmed as replacing Nuno Espirito Santo. It is unclear for how long he has signed.
But Romano claims he is already hard at work. ui Patricio is being strongly linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s Roma – meaning Wolves might need a new goalkeeper. Sa, 28, is impressing at Olympiacos, having left Porto initially on loan to join the Greek outfit. He has since played 124 times.
Romano says Lage is working on a deal for the uncapped Portugal man. He would certainly be a very good signing, clocking up 62 clean sheets in those 124 outings – conceding only 89 goals. He helped Olympiacos win the title – his second – and Romano said Lage wants him signed.
Transfer news: Would Sa be an adequate Wolves replacement for Patricio?
Firstly, selling Patricio for just £7million is a low fee. He is a much better goalkeeper than that figure, but his age has clearly come into play. Sa will cost more than that, though he is probably not as good as Patricio. However, he is still an excellent goalkeeper – and of course, a Jorge Mendes client.
that he is represented by Mendes agency Gestifute. So, it is a move that seems as though it makes sense. Can he become as good as Patricio? Without a doubt. But he will have to perform to his best to match that of Patricio.
