Fabrizio Romano says Mikel Arteta absolutely loves £51m player and really wants to sign him

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now been discussing a player who Mikel Arteta would love to welcome to Arsenal this summer.

It’s certainly no secret that there will be big changes to Arteta’s squad in the off-season, and it’s believed that a significant amount of funds will be available to strengthen.

Arsenal laid dormant in January, anticipating a big summer ahead.

And with the apparent need for a new striker, a goal-scorer to upgrade on Eddie Nketiah, and the likely departure of Thomas Partey, there’s work to be done.

Moreover, whilst most of Arsenal’s transfer talk is usually dominated by the arrival of a forward, Fabrizio Romano has now been discussing a key midfield target.

Speaking on ‘’, Romano said that The Gunners could be willing to go toe-to-toe with Bayern Munich for an important deal.

Romano was discussing Arsenal’s interest in Martin Zubimendi, a player Arteta absolutely adores.

And having already signed a former Real Sociedad midfielder in Martin Odegaard, it seems Arsenal could strike again.

Fabrizio Romano says Mikel Arteta loves Martin Zubimendi and wants him at Arsenal

Explaining the interest on the podcast, Romano said Arsenal could face competition from Bayern, and once again mentioned Zubimendi’s quite reasonable release clause.

Romano shared: “Arsenal want to sign a new midfielder in the summer transfer window, same for Bayern Munich – at least one player in that position.

“Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad is a player proceeded from both clubs, from Bayern and same for Arsenal.

“Both clubs really like him, Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Zubimendi.

“Bayern, we have to see who is going to be the manager, if Thomas Tuchel is staying, if they go with another one, so what kind of project they want to do in terms of midfielder.

“But Zubimendi is really appreciated, so is going to be one to watch for sure, remember he has a release clause of €60m in the summer.

“They player didn’t want to move last summer, same for the January transfer window, but next summer could be a different situation.”

Could they be more ambitious?

Don’t get us wrong, Zubimendi is a fine player, and it’s understandable that Romano is explaining just how much Arteta would like him at Arsenal.

But could the club aim higher?

Perhaps the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Joshua Kimmich could be on the market this summer, two players who would raise the level of Arteta’s midfield.

And given the height Arsenal’s project has now reached, they don’t seem like unrealistic moves.

So whilst Zubimendi would represent a strong signing, and we’ll trust Arteta on this one, it may be tempting to aim higher.

That being said, it seems as if one ‘outstanding’ Arsenal player could leave this summer, paving the way for such a move.
