Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool think £53m player would be an amazing signing for them

Liverpool have started this season absolutely brilliantly, winning each of their first three Premier League games.

The Reds look to be back to their best, and it does feel like they’re on the verge of something seriously special.

Liverpool are one or two pieces away from having an incredible team that is ready to push on.

However, there is still a bit of a gap in this side in terms of the defensive midfield role.

Liverpool still haven’t signed that Fabinho replacement in terms of a new defensive midfield player, but it hasn’t been for the lack of trying.

Martin Zubimendi was strongly linked with Liverpool this summer, and according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on , the Reds are still very keen on Zubimendi.

Liverpool think Martin Zubimendi could be perfect

Romano shared what he knows about Liverpool and their interest in the man.

“It’s too early, Liverpool are not commenting on this. What I do know is that Liverpool didn’t want to negotiate for another number six this summer because they believe the perfect player for this position is Martin Zubimendi,” Romano said.

“They won’t sign any player for the sake of it. I’m sure Martin Zubimendi will remain on Liverpool’s list, whether it’s January, next summer or never, we will see.

“I can confirm that the appreciation is still there, they still believe that Zubimendi would be the perfect player for the tactical idea they have at the club, let’s see, but the appreciation remains.”

Martin Zubimendi deal won’t be easy

Liverpool think Zubimendi would be perfect for their midfield, but signing him won’t be easy.

Indeed, according to Steve Kay, Zubimendi genuinely isn’t bothered about joining a big club.

“According to people I’ve been talking to he’s a strange man, he’s a strange character,” Kay said.

“He’s someone who doesn’t care about playing for teams like Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal. He’s happy to play where he is, finish fourth, fifth or sixth. He loves where he lives and that’s him. The Matt Le Tissier of La Liga I suppose.”

Zubimendi would be brilliant for Liverpool, but he seemingly isn’t planning to leave Real Sociedad anytime soon.

Zubimendi is staying loyal to his club, but make no mistake about it, if the midfielder does decide to leave, Liverpool will be right at the front of the queue.
