‘From what I’m told…’: Fabrizio Romano offers very latest on Liverpool’s pursuit of ‘perfect’ int’l midfielder

Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Liverpool and Frenkie de Jong last night, and it’s not the most ideal news for Jurgen Klopp.

Reports over this weekend have claimed that De Jong is on the list of potential signings for Liverpool as they look to add a midfielder before the deadline passes on Thursday this week. The Dutch star has been tipped to move away from Barca all summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea among the teams keen.

However, while Liverpool might hold an interest, any deal for De Jong will be tough to do, according to Fabrizio Romano anyway.

“From what I’m told, at the moment there are no negotiations between Barcelona and Liverpool for Frenkie but then again we are in the final days of the window so, you are not going to wait a long time to understand what happens with a new midfielder for Liverpool,” Romano said on his .

“But I’m told there are no negotiations and also the salary of De Jong is a huge one. So it’s not easy to sign Frenkie de Jong with a different salary structure that they have at Liverpool. So, let’s see, but at the moment, there are no direct conversations.”

TBR’s View: Liverpool De Jong Deal Is Tough

It would be quite amazing if Liverpool managed to pull this off with only days of the window remaining. We all know they get things done quickly but even this one would be pushing things a tad.

De Jong is, of course, a class act and if he is added to the midfield then it would improve things considerably for the Reds for this season.

But as Romano says, wages, transfer fees, and De Jong’s happiness in Barcelona already mean this one looks nigh on impossible as things stand for the Reds.
