Fabrizio Romano says ‘fantastic’ Chelsea player almost left in January in ‘secret’ transfer
January was an uncharacteristically quiet transfer window for Chelsea.
The Blues didn’t make a single signing in the winter transfer window, while the only departures were on loan.
However, there was almost a big-name departure in the January window.
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on the , Thiago Silva almost left Chelsea in January to join a club outside of Europe on big wages.
However, the Brazilian decided to stay loyal to Chelsea, deciding that he wouldn’t leave the club in such a difficult moment.

Thiago Silva could’ve left Chelsea
Romano shared what he knows about the ‘’ defender.
“Yeah first of all I want to say one important thing. Thiago Silva had a big chance to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window. It is a secret story, but he received an important proposal, I can’t mention the club, it’s not in Europe. A big salary and a big opportunity, but he decided to stay at Chelsea, he didn’t want to leave in a difficult moment for Chelsea,” Romano said.
Thiago Silva might have had a Saudi offer
Romano says that he can’t mention which club came in for Thiago Silva, but based on what he’s said, we can make an educated guess.
A club from outside of Europe offering big wages to an ageing big-name player. To us, it sounds as though Thiago Silva may have had an offer on the table from the Saudi Pro League.
We can’t help but admire Silva for not taking such an offer. Chelsea are really strugging at the moment, but he’s decided to stay loyal to the Blues and help them through this period rather than jumping ship at the earliest possible opportunity.
Silva did recently announce that he’s leaving Chelsea at the end of the season, but after seeing them through a difficult campaign, he can leave Stamford Bridge knowing that he somewhat helped steady a very rocky ship over the past 18 months.
