Fabrizio Romano says club are now getting close to agreeing deal for £32m Spurs player

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Brentford are now closing in on a deal to sign Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

Sergio Reguilon looks to be edging closer to becoming the next player to leave Spurs this month. Of course, the Spaniard has only just returned from a loan spell at Manchester United which was cut short after only half a season.

There is plenty of interest in the left-back, despite his struggles to impress Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. Bournemouth wanted Reguilon, as did Sevilla and Villarreal. However, it appears that Brentford are on pole position to now complete a deal in this window.

Rico Henry has been out for most of the season with injury. So it seems that Reguilon is on course to come in as cover for the remainder of the campaign.

Spurs still need to find right move for full-back

It does appear that Reguilon has no future at Tottenham while Ange Postecoglou remains in charge. He has done brilliantly with so many players since his arrival. So it is ominous that he does not necessarily see the potential in someone like the defender.

But it is still important that Tottenham find him the right move in January. Ultimately, their focus now will be on recouping as much of what they paid for the full-back as possible.

His spell at Manchester United did them no favours on that front as he really struggled for minutes. But if he can thrive with the Bees, perhaps there will be a few sides prepared to make substantial offers in the summer transfer window.
