Fabrizio Romano says Barcelona boss Xavi thinks 27-year-old Tottenham player is so ‘underrated’
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez thinks Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso is very underrated.
The Argentine has been at Spurs for over four years now, but he has never quite been able to nail down a place as an integral member of the squad. That has led to a ton of rumours about his future, and Barcelona were one of the clubs interested in him in the summer.

Barcelona boss Xavi thinks Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso is underrated
Tottenham signed Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis in the summer of 2019.
The midfielder was viewed by many as a massive talent back in the day. He was expected to become a star at Spurs, but his career in North London hasn’t exactly gone to plan.
Lo Celso spent the 18 months before the start of this season on loan at Villarreal. It seemed like he had no future at Tottenham and would be sold in the summer. Barcelona showed interest in the Argentine, but Spurs held onto him in the end.
Fabrizio Romano was asked if Barcelona could still be an option for Lo Celso in January. The journalist claimed that Xavi is a big fan of the Spurs man and really wants to manage him one day. However, it won’t happen next month.
He said on : “Look, the reality is that in the summer, it was a possibility. It was one of the names discussed by Xavi and Deco in the meetings they had about the midfield position.
“They discussed this chance to bring in Gio Lo Celso because he is a player I am told is really appreciated by Xavi. Xavi really considers Lo Celso an underrated midfielder with very good skills. He would like to train Gio Lo Celso one day.”
Romano then played down the chances of any move for Lo Celso in January.

Lo Celso should stay at Tottenham
Tottenham need all the help they can get at the moment, and Giovani Lo Celso has been excellent in their last two fixtures. The 27-year-old has scored in back-to-back games and looks like a great fit in Ange Postecoglou‘s attacking system at Spurs right now.
There may well be clubs interested in Lo Celso in January, but Spurs shouldn’t entertain any offers.
The North Londoners are already without James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield, while Pape Matar Sarr, who’s also currently injured, will join Yves Bissouma to take part in the African Cup of Nations next month.
Tottenham are already short of options in midfield and the last thing they need is to lose another one of their players. That’s why we think Lo Celso will stay at Spurs beyond the end of the January transfer window.
