Fabrizio Romano says Atletico Madrid have just made contact to sign £25m player Tottenham want

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update suggesting that one Tottenham Hotspur target could be heading elsewhere this month.

Ange Postecoglou has already enjoyed the arrivals of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin in January, but it seems Spurs are not done just yet.

The departures of Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier should have created some wiggle room for Daniel Levy to work with.

And as well as a move for Antonio Nusa, who looks like he’ll soon be taking Europe by storm, Spurs are said to be following a few other top young talents.

Perhaps if the likes of Bryan Gil and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave Tottenham this month, we could still see considerable bids made.

However, it seems as if Spurs may have to move with some haste if they want to sign Royal Antwerp’s Arthur Vermeeren.

Tottenham have often been linked with a move for Vermeeren this month, and has now shared a slightly concerning update from that point of view.

Taking to X, Romano explained that Atletico Madrid had scouted the 18-year-old extensively and have now made contact with Antwerp.

The journalist confirmed that several clubs are interested in a deal this month – meaning Spurs have strong competition.

Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham target Arthur Vermeeren has a ton of interest this month

Sharing the latest, Romano said: “Arthur Vermeeren, one of the names on Atletico Madrid list as he’s been scouted multiple times.

“Understand Atleti have made contact to be informed on conditions of Vermeeren deal.

“Several clubs are keen on signing Belgian top talent.”

Of course, Vermeeren could be available for a very reasonable in January, an opportunity that could be too good to turn down for Ange Postecoglou and his team.

It’s widely known that Postecoglou loves working with young talent, he’s got a reputation for helping players reach their potential.

And following Romano’s update, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham make a concerted move this month.

Spurs do still lack a midfielder or two when considering their long-term vision.

And if Vermeeren were able to replace Oliver Skipp or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for example, it would represent excellent progress.

That being said, it seems one player isn’t interested in leaving Spurs this month despite being subject of a recent bid.
