Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal-linked Lisandro Martinez is about to join Manchester United

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez this summer, but it looks like the Argentine is on his way to Manchester United now.
The priority for the Gunners before the transfer window opened was a new striker and a central midfielder. However, reports then led us to believe that Mikel Arteta is really pushing for a left-sided defender as well.
Ajax star Martinez, branded as an ‘excellent’ player, was quickly named by multiple outlets as Arsenal’s priority target for that position, and the Gunners even tabled a few bids to try and get the deal over the line.
Sadly for Arteta, Edu and everyone else at Arsenal, it looks like they’ve missed out.
Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal-linked Lisandro Martinez is about to join Manchester United
Arsenal and Manchester United are the two clubs who have been really pushing to sign Martinez for a few weeks now.
The Gunners were the first to make the move, but as soon as the Red Devils came into the picture, it seemed likely that they would win the race – only because of Erik Ten Hag, who bought Martinez to Ajax and helped him develop into one of the best defenders in the Eredivisie.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that it’s just a matter of time before Manchester United will seal the deal for Martinez, who will be a fine signing for them.
“All parties involved in the Lisandro Martínez deal are convinced that it’s just ‘matter of hours and final details’ to complete the agreement between Manchester United and Ajax. Feeling into Man Utd is that meeting in Amsterdam was the key step – deal at final stage,” Romano .
TBR View:
Lisandro Martinez was never going to be the first choice at Arsenal if the Gunners had signed him, but missing out on the Argentine really is a big blow.
The Ajax star is hugely versatile. He can play at centre-half, left-back and also in defensive midfield. Arsenal need cover in every single one of those positions, which made Martinez the perfect option.
Sadly for them, it looks like he’s on his way to Old Trafford now, and we must say, he will make Manchester United a lot stronger than they were last season.
Arteta and Edu will now have to find another player as an alternative to Martinez. It definitely won’t be easy, but Arsenal just need someone just as good, if not better.
