Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal defender’s contract terminated by mutual consent

Arsenal were one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs on transfer deadline day as they wrapped up several deals in the final few hours before the window shut.

In terms of incomings, Brazil goalkeeper Neto and England winger Raheem Sterling joined the Gunners on loan from Bournemouth and Chelsea respectively.

Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsdale has joined Southampton permanently, Eddie Nketiah is now on Crystal Palace’s books, and Reiss Nelson has linked up with Fulham on loan.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided another update from Arsenal which took place on Friday, namely the mutual termination of a player’s contract.

The player in question is Omar Rekik, who had been on Arsenal’s books since he joined the academy in 2021.

“Omar Rekik, no longer an Arsenal player as contract was terminated on mutual agreement yesterday,” Romano wrote on X.

“Rekik now available as free agent after his specific request to leave and try new chapter.”

Arsenal signed Rekik from Hertha Berlin in 2021. According to , they paid around £540,000 for his services.

The 6ft 2in ace had stints in the youth academies of Feyenoord, PSV, Manchester City and Marseille before joining the German side.

Much of Rekik’s time on the books at Arsenal has been spent out on loan, and he leaves without having made a competitive senior appearance for the Gunners.

The Netherlands-born 22-year-old has had loan stints at Dutch outfit Sparta Rotterdam, EFL side Wigan Athletic, and Swiss club Servette.

Rekik’s last loan stint was at Servette, who . However, they did not take this up.

The Tunisia international was for their recent pre-season tour of the United States.
