Fabrizio Romano says £86m player will not join Arsenal or Chelsea in January

Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with a move to sign Viktor Gyokeres in January, but Fabrizio Romano has some bad news for the London clubs.

Mikel Arteta and Mauricio Pochettino are both expected to be on the market next month. Strikers are said to be on the agenda of both clubs, and Gyokeres is a very interesting option. However, a move in January is unlikely to happen.

Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal and Chelsea target Viktor Gyokeres will not leave in January

Viktor Gyokeres is one of the most exciting strikers in Europe right now, and it’s no surprise that clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in him.

The talented Swede, who was at Coventry City last season, has scored 17 goals and provided eight assists in just 20 games for Sporting Lisbon this season.

That is an excellent return for a centre-forward, and he is expected to be a wanted man in 2024.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both been heavily linked with a move to sign Gyokeres, but sadly for the two London clubs, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the striker has decided to stay in Lisbon until the summer.

Romano said on : “Sporting invested €24 million (£20.7m) and now they have one of the best strikers around Europe because Viktor Gyokeres is doing fantastic. He’s scoring goals, providing assists.

“A lot of interest in Viktor Gyokeres, yes, but not in January. From what I’m told, the player is planning to stay in Sporting in January.

“The only way to sign Gyokeres in the January transfer window is to take a plane, go to Lisbon and pay his €100 million (£86.5m) release clause. I think it is going to be difficult to pay that amount of money.

“Gyokeres is going to be one to watch in the summer. Chelsea have sent their scouts multiple times to follow this boy, Arsenal also.”

Arsenal will have to look elsewhere for a new striker

Viktor Gyokeres is a fantastic striker and he’ll surely be on the move for big money in one of the next two transfer windows.

However, we just can’t see Arsenal signing him, at least not in January, even though his manager Ruben Amorim claimed he is distracted by the Gunners’ interest,

The North Londoners spent a fortune in the summer to sign Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and David Raya. They tied down their key players to lucrative contracts as well.

That makes it very difficult for Arsenal to spend £86.5 million on Gyokeres next month. Mikel Arteta and Edu will have to focus their attention elsewhere to strengthen their attack.
