Fabrizio Romano says £30m player is about to join Liverpool with medical scheduled
It’s taken months, but Liverpool are about to make the first signing of the Arne Slot era.
The Reds have been linked with a number of players during this transfer window, but, as of yet, no new signings have arrived.
Martin Zubimendi rejected Liverpool earlier this summer, but now the Reds seem to have landed their first signing.
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia is now all but done.

Giorgi Mamardashvili to Liverpool is almost done
Fabrizio Romano shared an update on this deal.
The journalist claims that Mamardashvili is set to have his Liverpool medical imminently, and a deal worth €35m (£30m) has been agreed.
The Georgian goalkeeper has been linked with Liverpool for a little while now.
Mamardashvili is going to become a Liverpool player imminently, but he isn’t going to play a part at Anfield this season.
Indeed, Romano claims that Mamardashvili will immediately go back on loan to Valencia.
Mamardashvili is one for the future at Liverpool
Giorgi Mamardashvili is Liverpool’s first signing of the summer, but it may be a while before the Reds bear the fruits of this signing.
Alisson is still the Reds’ undisputed number one, and that isn’t likely to change anytime soon.
However, at the age of just 23, Mamardashvili is still so young in goalkeeping terms, and in a few years’ time, he could be ready to replace Alisson.
Signing a promising young goalkeeper for the future only to loan them out is a smart strategy, and it’s a strategy we’ve seen before.
Cast your mind back a decade or so and you will remember Thibaut Courtois went through a similar experience at Chelsea.
Courtois spent no fewer than three years out on loan at Atletico Madrid from Chelsea before he was ready to replace Petr Cech.
Mamardashvili could have a similar sort of trajectory at Liverpool, and, in a few years’ time, we may view this as a genius piece of business.
Liverpool’s transfer window is finally underway, and the Reds may have found an outstanding signing here.
