Fabrizio Romano says £30m Arsenal strike target is now set for Roma

Arsenal are up and running in the transfer window, having made their first senior signing of the summer this week.

The Gunners were fairly quiet in the opening weeks of the market, but have now sealed the signing of Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

Arsenal are likely to be busy in the coming weeks now that the various transfer dominoes are beginning to fall en masse and deadline day edges ever closer.

A new centre-forward could well be on the cards for the Gunners, who missed out on crucial points last season because they lacked a No. 9 to clinically convert chances.

However, one striker Arsenal have reportedly been monitoring is now set to go elsewhere, as Fabrizio Romano has reported.

Arsenal target Artem Dovbyk now Roma-bound

The player in question is Girona’s Artem Dovbyk, who enjoyed an outstanding season in La Liga last term and played for Ukraine at Euro 2024.

Arsenal have reportedly enquired about signing Dovbyk after he helped Girona qualify for the Champions League.

However, Romano has now declared “here we go” on Dovbyk to Roma, saying club-side talks and player-side talks are over the line.

The transfer insider posted twice about the 27-year-old in quick succession on Wednesday evening.

Romano’s first tweet on Dovbyk was the “here we go”, saying the final details were being sorted on a deal worth €34million (£28.6million) plus add-ons.

The reported Arsenal target “only wanted AS Roma” and is set to sign a five-year contract when he travels to the Italian capital on Thursday.

Romano then reported that the deal would be worth up to £30million including add-ons, plus a sell-on clause, and also noted how Dovbyk’s profile appeared to have ‘liked’ the previous post.

Arsenal miss out on Erling Haaland-type striker

Arsenal’s search for a new striker will have to continue after one of Europe’s most in-form strikers opted to join a different club.

Dovbyk would’ve been a great shout for the Gunners. He’s in his prime as a striker and proved his worth at the top level last season with a staggering 25 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for Girona.

recently published a detailed scouting report on Dobvyk, in which they claimed he’s an Erling Haaland-type player.

They wrote: ‘Artem Dovbyk is not the most modern striker on the planet, but his clear strengths fit Girona’s tactics almost perfectly; he’s deadly, fast, strong, has good ball-striking and decent link-up play.

‘This makes him more of an Erling Haaland than Harry Kane, for example, but considering Michel’s style of play, that is exactly what he’s supposed to be.’
