Fabrizio Romano says £27m player has agreed to sign for Tottenham in the future as Giovani Lo Celso leaves
Tottenham have agreed one of the most unique deals of transfer deadline day.
Indeed, in a deal to sell Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis, Tottenham have managed to negotiate a deal around Johnny Cardoso.
Tottenham won’t be signing the American right now, but they hold the option to sign him in the future for should they wish to.
Speaking on his transfer deadline livestream, Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on Cardoso, and he says that the player himself has agreed personal terms for this eventual move to Tottenham.

Johnny Cardoso agrees to sign for Tottenham in the future
Romano shared what he knows about the Real Betis midfielder.
“Then let me say that for Lo Celso and Johnny Cardoso. They are preparing and signing the documents now. Cardoso has accepted to go to Tottenham potentially in the future. It is an option for Tottenham to sign the player,” Romano said.
“Let’s see what Spurs decide to do , but the player has said yes to this opportunity and yes to this possibility. Johnny Cardoso is another big opportunity for the future to go to Tottenham because the contracts are being prepared right now.”
Cardoso to Tottenham one to watch
Cardoso won’t be signing for Tottenham today, but this is a situation to keep an eye on in the future.
Tottenham have first dibs on Cardoso in the future for a very decent price, and if the American continues to develop as he has over the past 12 months, he will be worth every penny of that £27m option.
Of course, whether or not Spurs decide to trigger this option remains to be seen, but Tottenham do still have a bit of a gap in that midfield, so this is a deal that could happen in the future.
This is certainly a situation to keep in mind as we head into the January transfer window.
