Fabrizio Romano says £15m player definitely won’t be at Tottenham next season

Tottenham Hotspur have some big decisions to make in the coming months.

Spurs have had a terrible season, they’re in the bottom-half of the Premier League table, and they’re out of both domestic cup competitions.

A number of Tottenham’s players haven’t been good enough this season, and some departures in the summer may be inevitable.

There have been calls for Heung-Min Son to be sold at certain points, while Richarlison has been linked with a move away from Tottenham too.

Timo Werner has been criticised heavily this season, and speaking on Market Madness, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Werner’s future prospects at Tottenham.

According to the journalist, Timo Werner has no future at Spurs, claiming that it’s impossible that Spurs will trigger their option to buy Werner at the end of the season.

Timo Werner won’t be staying at Tottenham

Romano shared what he knows about Werner, claiming that Spurs have already decided that they won’t be signing Werner permanently.

Tottenham have an option to buy Werner for , but they won’t be moving for him this summer.

“Fabrizio, if we stay with New York Red Bulls in particular, there’s been some suggestion that maybe Timo Werner is on their radar. Is there a possibility that he goes to MLS? And a bit broader, is your sense as of now, that it’s unlikely Spurs will trigger that option to buy?” Romano was asked.

“Yeah, I think you’ve been nice with unlikely. I think it’s impossible. From my information, it’s something that they already decided internally,” Romano said.

“It was not a good season for Werner and for Spurs together. So I think it’s in the interest of both parties to try something different next season. So the expectation is for Werner to return to Leipzig and then to try a new experience.

“In terms of MLS and New York, what I was hearing in January when this rumour started for the January window is that there was nothing really concrete into it. Let’s see for the summer. In January was never really close, from what I heard.”

Timo Werner stats for Tottenham

Tottenham aren’t going to sign Werner permanently, and it has to be said that the German hasn’t earned the right to get a permanent move to Spurs.

Indeed, Werner has been massively underwhelming for Tottenham. He’s been poor in front of goal, and he’s not created all that much either.

Tottenham need attackers who are going to make a difference in the final third, and, unfortunately, Werner just isn’t that player.

Spurs have been linked with some other exciting attacking options heading into the summer. After all, Tottenham are favourites to sign Eberechi Eze in this window.

Where Werner ends up playing his football next season remains to be seen, but it looks as though he won’t be playing for Spurs beyond this campaign.
