Fabrizio Romano provides Simone Inzaghi to Tottenham update amid increasing Ange Postecoglou sack threat

Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi has emerged as a surprising contender to replace Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham Hotspur’s next manager.

Fabio Paratici is eyeing Inzaghi at Tottenham to the extent that he has informed Daniel Levy to sack Postecoglou at the end of the season in favour of hiring the Serie A champion.

While Ange Postecoglou is struggling to get a tune out of his players, Simone Inzaghi is proving that he is well and truly one of the best managers in the world once again — with Inter Milan just one point behind league leaders Napoli while the Nerazzurri automatically qualified to the Champions League last-16 as well.

Thierry Henry labelled Inzaghi as a “genius” and justifiably so, as the former Lazio tactician has transformed Inter into one of the best teams in the world.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Tottenham have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup as well as the FA Cup in the space of a few days and sit 14th in the Premier League — with things looking increasingly bleak for Ange Postecoglou at Spurs.

With Postecoglou struggling and taking into account Inzaghi’s track record of improving players massively, being extremely tactically flexible and a manager who commands respect — the 48-year-old could be the perfect coach to elevate Tottenham as a side.

But simultaneously, Inter Milan have no reason to part ways with Simone Inzaghi, who is spearheading one of the most exciting projects in European football.

In 2023, Tottenham reportedly enquired about appointing Inzaghi, who could triumph on multiple fronts this season and Inter will be aware of the Lilywhites’ seeming longstanding interest in him.

It is also important to note that the highly-rated manager signed a contract extension until 2026 in July last year.

While Inzaghi, who shut down his links to Tottenham when he was managing Lazio in 2021 still has a year left on his current deal, his contract situation has become a matter of importance for Inter Milan once again — according to Fabrizio Romano.

Fabrizio Romano told via their newsletter: “It’s now an urgent topic at Inter. Full focus on Serie A, Champions League, they’re still fighting in all competitions and nothing will be discussed now, also because he signed a new deal eight months ago.”

Simone Inzaghi’s trophy haul at Inter Milan reflects his incredible success at the club and why he is as valued as he is by the reigning champions of Italy.

Having joined Inter in just 2021, Inzaghi’s five trophies indicate how much of a serial winner he is.

Across world football, there are not many more gifted young coaches than the Piacenza-born manager.

However, Tottenham have no plans to sack Ange Postecoglou even if they suffer their 14th league defeat of the campaign to Manchester United.

Fabrizio Romano revealed: “At the moment, there are still no indications of changes at Spurs. Of course, no one is happy with the current situation, but no indication of imminent changes. Let’s see in the next few days and after the next games.”

Perhaps the plan at N17 is to keep the faith in Postecoglou until the end of the season and then review his future.

Tottenham fans doubt Inzaghi will say yes to a potential move in any case but Spurs’ hand might be forced if the former Celtic boss fails to show a marked improvement in his side’s performances.
