Fabrizio Romano provides Roberto Firmino update with Arsenal potentially eyeing signing him on a free transfer
Arsenal have been linked with a shock move to sign Liverpool icon Roberto Firmino on a free transfer.
The Gunners are in a bit of a crisis up top. After Gabriel Jesus ruptured his ACL and was ruled out for the rest of the campaign in January, Kai Havertz suffered a season-ending injury too.
🌞Arsenal have no proper number nine right now. Leandro Trossard is filling in at the moment, while Mikel Merino, who is naturally a midfielder, was brought on against Leicester City as a striker to help out.
With the transfer window closed, the only way Arsenal𒀰 can reinforce their side is by signing a free agent, and Firmino has suddenly emerged as an option.
Fabrizio Romano shares Roberto Firmino update amid Arsenal links
Firmino♑ left Liverpool in the summer of 2023 and joined Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia.
ꦕThe Brazilian is actually the captain of the Saudi Pro League side and has even played 26 games in all competitions so far this season.
🎉However, Al-Ahli boss Matthias Jaissle dropped Firmino from his league squad because rules there state that only 10 foreign players can be included.
𒈔The Liverpool legend was removed from the squad along with Ezgjan Alioski to accommodate Galeno, who joined the club from Porto in January.
That has led to rumours that ♚Firmino could terminate his Al-Ahli contract, and Arsenal have been linked﷽ with a move to sign him if he becomes a free agent.
꧅However, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Al-Ahli are keen to keep Firmino because they can still use the Brazilian in the AFC Champions League.
🐟The journalist wrote in his : “He’s still not leaving Al-Ahli now as the Saudi club insists to continue until the summer as they can use him in the Asian Champions League.
▨“Let’s see what happens if they change their stance.”

Roberto Firmino’s stats since joining Al-Ahli
Firmino was absolutely incredible during his time at Liverpool.
꧑The Brazil international was often overshadowed by the brilliance of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, but neither of those two would’ve been as good without their false nine.
꧋Firmino hasn’t been bad at Al-Ahli at all since he joined them.
Games | Starts | Goals | Assists | |
Roberto Firmino in 2023/24 | 34 | 27 | 9 | 7 |
Roberto Firmino in 2024/25 | 26 | 20 | 10 | 5 |
﷽Arsenal could do with a Premier League-proven forward right now following their injury issues, and an experienced player like Firmino would make a lot of sense.
♕However, Al-Ahli will have to release him from his contract for this move to happen.
Furthermore, it remains to be seen if Firmino will be open to a move to Arsenal, who are hoping to pip his old side Liverpool to the Premier League crown.
