Fabrizio Romano has shared why Tottenham haven’t signed Eberechi Eze yet

Eberechi Eze is one of Tottenham Hotspur’s key targets in this summer’s transfer window.

Spurs have already made additions to their squad. They have re-signed Timo Werner on another loan deal and Archie Gray has been brought in from Leeds United.

Tottenham definitely need more signings in the coming weeks, and we’re sure Ange Postecoglou will be pushing his club to get him the players he wants.

TBE Football exclusively revealed that Tottenham have made an enquiry about Eze, but no bid has been placed just yet. Fabrizio Romano has explained why.

Fabrizio Romano shares ‘real issue’ Tottenham have in Eberechi Eze race

Eze has been on Tottenham’s radar for a long time.

The Crystal Palace star was a part of the England squad who suffered heartbreak in the final of Euro 2024 against Spain. He got a few opportunities there and managed to catch the eye.

Now, Eze will be free to decide on his future, and Tottenham are among multiple clubs interested in signing the talented attacker in this window.

However, until now, Spurs haven’t made any move to sign Eze from Palace. His involvement at the Euros may have been a factor, but there is another problem.

Romano has confirmed that Tottenham are interested in Eze, but he has revealed that there is a ‘real issue’ that has stopped any deal from happening.

That is Eze’s release clause – not the sum but the fact that Palace are demanding most of the fee to be paid upfront for this deal to happen.

Speaking about Tottenham, Romano told : “For Eze, for sure, he’s one of the players they have on the list.

“For sure, they appreciate the player, but the real issue is about the release clause, with the main part of the clause being paid in one solution immediately to Crystal Palace.

“That’s why it’s not kind of an easy deal on the club side. We know the clauses at Palace are always kind of complicated. We also saw that with Michael Olise in the last year.

“But Eze, for sure, is a player on Tottenham’s list. Let’s see if they will be able to make it happen.”

Tottenham’s rivals could beat Spurs and sign Eze

Tottenham appear to be the frontrunners in the race to sign Eze, but that doesn’t mean anything if they can’t meet Crystal Palace’s demands.

The Eagles want Eze’s release clause, which is set at £60 million plus additional add-ons worth around £8 million (), to be triggered, and Romano has revealed that the main part, which is the £60 million, should be paid up front.

That has clearly complicated things for Tottenham, which is why they haven’t made a move yet. That opens the door for other clubs to pounce.

Reports have revealed that Arsenal could sign Eze this summer, and the Gunners may even have an edge in the race.

Palace are interested in Arsenal trio Emile Smith Rowe, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah this summer.

That opens the door for the Gunners to include one or two of the above players in the deal for Eze. That could do the trick, which will leave Spurs fans fuming.
