Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool and Newcastle have just missed out on ‘phenomenal’ signing
Liverpool and Newcastle United have been closely connected all summer when it comes to transfers.
From Liverpool’s failed bid to sign Anthony Gordon to Newcastle coming close to landing Joe Gomez, the two Premier League sides have been involved in a number of deals together this summer heading into today’s deadline.
Newcastle were also interested in Federico Chiesa, who yesterday was announced as Liverpool’s first proper signing of the transfer window, with the Italian international opting to choose the Anfield giants over a number of Premier League sides.
Yet one player Liverpool and Newcastle were both linked with has now officially signed for a new team.

Mohamed Simakan to join Al-Nassr despite Liverpool and Newcastle interest
According to Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan has reached total agreement to join Saudi Arabian said Al-Nassr, with the defender choosing a move to the Middle East over the Premier League.
Romano posted: “Mohamed Simakan to Al Nassr, here we go! Deal agreed on five year contract for CB to join from RB Leipzig with Geertruida as replacement. Despite links with PL clubs, only Al Nassr in concrete talks with Leipzig as exclusively revealed two days ago. Medical in 24/48h.”
Hailed as a ‘phenomenal’ defender via , Simikan was linked with Liverpool and Newcastle having established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the Bundesliga with Leipzig.
However, with the versatile centre-back now heading to Saudi Arabia, Liverpool and Newcastle will be questioning why the defender chose a move to Al-Nassr over the Premier League, where the 24-year-old could have been a regular for either side.

Simakan is taking a big risk heading to Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s spending this summer has cooled dramatically compared to last year, yet that’s not to say there’s been a lack of big-money signings, and Simakan is one that certainly catches the eye.
The French defender is one of the most exciting players in the Bundesliga and a talent who would not have looked out of place at the likes of Liverpool or Newcastle this summer.
And the defender, like every top player who has moved to Saudi Arabia in recent years, is taking a big risk on his career, with Simakan someone who could soon regret moving to the Middle East if expectations are not met.
