‘Agreement in place’: Fabrizio Romano has just delivered some exciting news for Newcastle fans
It’s the news Newcastle United fans have probably been expecting all day but according to Fabrizio Romano, Brighton’s technical direct Dan Ashworth has indeed agreed a move to the Northeast.
Ashworth stepped down from his role at the Seagulls this morning and the media immediately jumped on the fact Ashworth was set to move to Newcastle with PIF. The experienced Ashworth has done an outstanding job at the AMEX and has been credited as having played a huge role in their success.

And now, according to Fabrizio Romano on , Ashworth has an agreement in place to make the move to Newcastle.
The move for Ashworth from Newcastle has been touted ever since PIF bought the club. It’s been widely accepted at St James’ Park that they need an experienced person at the helm to run all footballing operations, including transfer and recruitment strategies.
And it seems the Mags have got their man in Ashworth. However, he won’t be able to step in straight away. Brighton confirmed today he has contractual obligations to fulfil – essentially gardening leave – before he can move on.
TBR’s View: Newcastle Doing Things Right
You have to hand it to PIF really. All eyes are on them and they’ve delivered in the market in January and now have made the best off-field appointment they could.
Ashworth should be a home run really. His work with England and Brighton is well known and Newcastle are lucky to have him onboard.
The key now, of course, is for them to remain in the Premier League. Should they do that, then the sky could well be the limit for the Toon.
