Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool were offered Arsenal defender Sokratis

The Gunners enforcer has fallen way down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium this season and has a number of clubs vying for his signature.
He does claim that Liverpool are yet to decide whether or not they will move for a centre-back this month.
Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all currently injured, leaving Jurgen Klopp without a senior centre-back.
Despite that, the manager has maintained that he is satisfied with his squad.
Fabinho and Jordan Henderson has deputised in recent weeks, with youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips also frequently in the squad.
Sokratis arrived in North London from Dortmund in 2018 and has played 69 times for the Gunners.
He wasn’t even registered this season, however, with Mikel Arteta wanting to make his own mark on the Arsenal squad.
Sokratis earns at the Emirates and he’s proved a decent servant over the last few years.
The podcast does state that right now the Greek defender isn’t an option as such, but that an opportunity could present itself later in the window.

They say beggars can’t be choosers but in Liverpool’s case, signing Sokratis could be an exception to that notion.
The Reds could benefit from having another centre-back – and a senior one at that.
What they shouldn’t do, however, is sign someone for the sake of it and there’s a feeling that Sokratis would epitomise a panic signing.
If Klopp wants a centre-back then the club should pay a bit of money and get a player more befitting the profile of a Liverpool player.
Sokratis is 32 and hasn’t played for months. There is no saying that he will even get himself up to scratch to feature significantly for the Reds during the second half of the season.
A centre-back would be a welcome addition but Sokratis isn’t the man they should be targeting.
