Fabrizio Romano claims high-scoring 19-year-old Tottenham gem set for loan move

Tottenham Hotspur gem Jude Soonsup-Bell is set for an exciting next step in his career this month, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Spurs academy talent has enjoyed a superb season at youth level so far, registering an impressive nine goals and five assists from 12 outings.

Now, Romano has taken to to claim Soonsup-Bell could be set for a loan move to an EFL club in the January transfer window.

The transfer insider says a number of Championship and League One clubs are interested in the Tottenham prodigy’s services.

Soonsup-Bell joined Tottenham’s development setup in January 2023, making the move from London rivals Chelsea.

He began his football journey at Swindon Town before joining the Blues at Under-13 level.

Soonsup-Bell progressed through the ranks to Under-21 level and even got a senior appearance under his belt at Chelsea, in the 2021-22 Carabao Cup.

Now at Tottenham, the teenager has been shining for the Spurs Under-21s, with 11 goals and five outings from 19 appearances in 2023.

At international level, Soonsup-Bell has featured for England’s Young Lions up to Under-19 level, and has played alongside fellow Spurs gems Alfie Devine, Nile John and Dane Scarlett.

‘He has the brain for the sport’

“He actually started as a central midfielder, which is where he played at Swindon,” Soonsup-Bell’s older brother, Zac, told in 2021. “At Chelsea, aged about 14, they changed him into a striker.

“They saw something Swindon didn’t see, but that technical side he learned in midfield and that unselfish side helps him as a striker. Chelsea saw that he could score goals but contribute more to mould him quickly into a centre forward.

“He is athletic, as a No.9 should be, and he is quite tall and quick. But, for me, his best attribute is his intelligence both on and off the ball. He has the brain for the sport, with composure on the ball.

“He is right-footed but he spent years working on his left foot when playing football in school, and now he would say he doesn’t have a weaker foot. The athletic side is also coming into his game more now.”

It’s always great news when an academy player is set to go out on loan to the EFL, particularly when there are links with Championship players.

This normally suggests that a player is a cut above and has effectively already outgrown the Under-21 system. An EFL loan is normally the next step before challenging for a first-team place.

Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Let’s hope Soonsup-Bell goes to out on loan to a higher-end EFL club and goes on to shine.
