Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal have offered midfielder new contract, but has not put pen to paper

laims Reiss Nelson has been offered a new contract at Arsenal – but the midfielder has chosen not to sign it. Romano says Nelson, who is out of contract in 2022, is looking for a new challenge. Three English clubs are keen, as are Olympiakos.

Nelson, 21, got just two Premier League appearances under Mikel Arteta last season. During the second half of the campaign, the winger even returned to the Under-23 side – making six appearances for Steve Bould’s Under-23 side. He has now entered the final 12 months of his contract.

Romano claims Arsenal have offered Nelson the chance to extend that deal, but then immediately send him out on loan. Joe Willock has shown just how beneficial that can be. But Nelson has not accepted the deal and wants a permanent move. Three English sides, and Olympiakos, are keen.

Nelson needs to leave Arsenal permanently

Despite clocking up 47 senior outings for the Gunners, it is clear that he needs to leave Arsenal. The winger has been excellent on occasion, but with Nicolas Pepe improving, Nelson is going to struggle to break into the side. A loan is just delaying the inevitable. A permanent exit is needed.

A move to a Premier League club where he gets regular football is wise. However, a move to Olympiakos could be interesting – given they just won the Greek Super League and will be in the Champions League next season.
