FA Cup: Fifth Round Team of the Weekend feat. Tottenham and Lincoln City stars
Coach: Danny Cowley (Lincoln City)
Formation: 4-3-3
It had to be, didn’t it? Taking nothing away from Millwall manager Neil Harris’ game management to steer his side to a win over the Premier League champions with ten-men, but Cowley has masterminded victories over Championship outfits Ipswich and Brighton prior to now, but steering a non-league side to victory away from home to a Premier League club, and ensuring the Red Imps became the first non-league club to reach the last-eight in 103 years? Simply remarkable.
Despite Burnley’s possession and domination, Cowley set his team up to stifle the Clarets, ensured they were well-drilled at the back and were able to rely on target-man Matt Rhead to hold-up the ball and relieve pressure when required. A perfect game-plan played out to perfection, to the joy of their 3,210 travelling fans, who saw their side reach the FA Cup Sixth Round for the first time in their history. Echoes of Bradford City’s run to the final of the League Cup back in 2012/13 perhaps? Who knows? They are in the Quarter-Finals after all, and Arsenal’s unconvincing display at Sutton will ensure that they entire their tie at the Emirates full of hope of reaching Wembley.
