Ezri Konsa and Morgan Rogers left in awe of £18m Aston Villa player in 1-0 win over Bayern Munich

Aston Villa’s win over Bayern Munich at Villa Park on Wednesday evening was the exact kind of night every Villa fan was craving after their return to Europe’s top competition.

Unai Emery masterminded another brilliant piece of history for Villa, who overcame Bayern thanks to the inspiration of Emiliano Martinez and Jhon Duran.

In truth, there wasn’t a poor performance in claret, even the likes of Jaden Philogene, who made a surprise start, delivered an outstanding defensive effort.

Villa had to suffer for periods, defending resolutely against a team spearheaded by Harry Kane, but eventually they got their reward.

As is often the case this season, both Ian Maatsen and Duran were subbed on to give Villa something different, providing some fresh legs.

And Villa’s 20-year-old Colombian certainly didn’t disappoint.

Catching Manuel Neuer off his line moments after coming on, Duran scored his fifth goal of the season in just eight appearances, most of which have come as a substitute.

For context of his improvement, the striker scored eight goals in 37 games last term, a record he’s on course to eclipse.

There was a ton of talk about Duran leaving Villa Park this summer, the likes of Chelsea and West Ham United were thought to be very keen on the young striker.

However, both Emery and Villa will be pleased that they rejected the countless offers that Monchi recently told of.

That being said, after scoring the winner for Villa in the Champions League, Duran took to Instagram to celebrate with his teammates and fans.

Duran uploaded a collage of photos from the game alongside a caption of: “Happy to score in Champions, the winning goal against this great team, excellent teamwork and the incredible stadium atmosphere today! We’re still working on it.”

To which, both Ezri Konsa and Morgan Rogers replied with their support, a team that has come so far.

Ollie Watkins doesn’t deserve to be dropped

Of course, with Emery’s side flying so high right now, it may be a challenge to refocus for Manchester United’s visit this weekend.

Villa are currently sitting fifth domestically, and the target for this time next May will surely be to retain their place in the Champions League.

And with that in mind, it surely is just a matter of time until Emery manages to regularly play both Duran and Ollie Watkins in the same team.

Both deserve to be starting, but it’s no easy task for the Spaniard to do so in a balanced side.

That being said, Vincent Kompany praised two Aston Villa players after Wednesday’s remarkable win.
