‘Expect him to stay’: David Ornstein says £45m Liverpool target won’t be leaving now

Kalvin Phillips has been to Liverpool as a midfielder option after the departure of Fabinho.

The Manchester City midfielder barely got a chance at the Etihad last season, so it stands to reason to believe that the man would be leaving the club this summer.

Liverpool were to be keen on Phillips, but according to David Ornstein, that move may not be a goer now.

Indeed, speaking to , Ornstein stated that while there has been plenty of speculation around Phillips, he now expects the midfielder to stay at the Premier League champions.

Phillips to stay

Ornstein shared what he knows about Phillips.

“They still have Kalvin Phillips there, despite a lot of speculation around him I do expect him to stay and fight for his place in the coming season. They went for Declan Rice so are they still looking in that position?” Ornstein said.

More chances?

Phillips is set to stay at City this summer, and we can’t help but feel he will be getting more chances at the Etihad this season.

If Phillips is set for more time on the bench this season, he would surely be pushing for a move away from City.

We’ve seen before how it can take a season or so to get ticking under Pep Guardiola. Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez both needed a season to figure out the system, and Phillips may well be going through that same transformation this summer.

Phillips may not be set for Liverpool, but it looks like he could well be in for a very exciting season at his current club.
