Exclusive: Nigel Martyn would back Leeds move for Rodrigo De Paul, amid new reports
Nigel Martyn has told The Boot Room that he thinks Leeds United should go back in for Udinese star Rodrigo De Paul in the January transfer window – amid reports Udinese have dropped their asking price to just £27million.
Victor Orta admitted after the summer window had ended that Leeds looked into the possibility of signing Argentina international De Paul, : “The valuation of his club was a level that was difficult for Leeds to reach.”
that Udinese wanted a whopping £37million, £10million more than the fee Leeds tabled to sign Rodrigo – which remains a club record. But may have just re-opened the door for Orta and Leeds.
Indeed, the latest report claims Udinese have slapped a new asking price on De Paul – worth £27million, though Inter Milan are also interested. Martyn believes that if Leeds can afford De Paul’s new price tag, then he would be a “good addition.”
“Yeah,” Martyn said, when asked if Leeds should return for De Paul in January. “If you’ve got the money, and you can afford to do it, the quality of player is what you need in this division. But if you’re going to spend that money, he has to play.
“He has to perform. It is seeing enough of him on the pitch and performing, and they will be looking at him the whole time and probably making that decision. They see him more than we do, he would definitely be a good addition if the finances allow it.”

Pablo Hernandez, Rodrigo, Tyler Roberts, Jamie Shackleton, Helder Costa and Stuart Dallas have all played in the attacking midfield role alongside Mateusz Klich this season – but none have managed to stamp their authority.
Rodrigo is expected to start on Friday night against West Ham but a move to bring De Paul to Elland Road would end the search for Klich’s midfield partner. However, at £27million, could Leeds really afford to sign him?
The Whites spent the best part of £100million in the summer on Rodrigo, Raphinha, Diego Llorente, Helder Costa, Robin Koch, Illan Meslier, Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt. Time will tell if Andrea Radrizzani wants to fork out even more.
