Exclusive: 23-year-old player is set to leave Celtic in ‘the coming hours’

News that Gustaf Lagerbielke is set to head to Lecce broke last night as the Swedish defender has found himself surplus to requirements at Parkhead.

The 23-year-old made the £3m summer switch to Glasgow from Elfsborg but after just six months it seems that Brendan Rodgers feels he doesn’t have the necessary quality to make it at the Glasgow giants.

The former Allsvensken Defender of the Year looks set to move to Lecce and Luca Bendoni of who broke the story yesterday on his , said the move will be concluded ‘in the coming hours’.

Speaking exclusively to TBR Celtic, Bendoni said, “We are still waiting for the details as we are waiting for further confirmation about them. All we know at the moment is that it’s a loan plus buy option and it’s something that is confirmed.

“I don’t think the option can become mandatory at certain conditions. But I know they discussed this option to become mandatory in certain conditions.

“I think they didn’t include it in the end. I think it’s just an option on Lecce’s side at the end of the season.

“It would be a six-month loan of course. But tomorrow I think it’s the day in which they are going to close the deal in every way with final paperwork.

“They are working to complete in the coming hours and we’ll keep you posted.”

Lagerbielke’s transfer out of Celtic concludes a bizarre story that saw a dream £3m move turn sour almost overnight.

After being sent off in his Champions League debut against Feyenoord, it seemed that there may well be no way back for the young Swede despite impressing in the Glasgow Derby back in September.

But despite scoring the winning goal that saw Celtic end a dreadful ten-year spell without a win in the Champions League, Lagerbielke’s Celtic career looks like it is coming to an unceremonious at some point today.

When the move happens, the youngster will go with the best wishes of the Celtic fans who will always remember him for that special goal against Feyenoord.
