‘Excellent’ Tottenham player in contention to play for the first time for a month vs Aston Villa

Ryan Sessegnon could be involved in Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Aston Villa on Saturday and make his first appearance in a month.

Antonio Conte said last week that the wing-back was “very, very close” to recovering from a hamstring injury, having not played since pulling up in the 5-0 win over Everton on March 7.

The England under-21 international had started the last five Premier League games prior to suffering the muscle injury against the Toffees.

Conte had lauded the former Fulham man’s performances before his latest period on the sidelines.

The former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan manager said via : “His performances were good, he was excellent and he was improving.”

Given the 21-year-old’s struggles with injuries, Conte is likely to ease him back into action especially with the options he has at his disposal in the wing-back area.

Spain international Sergio Reguilon who sat out Spurs’ 5-1 win over Newcastle with a knock has returned to training and is also expected to be available for the clash against Steven Gerrard’s side, according to the .

In the demolition against Newcastle, Matt Doherty, who filled in at left wing-back with both Reguilon and Sessegnon absent, scored and then set up another for Emerson Royal who came into the side.

The Italian will be loving the competition for places and that all four of his wing-back options are pushing and challenging one and other.

With the race for the all important fourth spot intensifying and Champions League football within Spurs’ grasp, Conte will be delighted that players are coming back from injuries at the crucial time of the season.
