‘Excellent’: Sky Sports commentator wowed by £10m Newcastle man’s display vs Man City
was left amazed by Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope’s display against Manchester City today.
Pope made some excellent saves against City today as Newcastle drew 3-3 with the Premier League champions.
But if it wasn’t for the 30-year-old, Howe’s men could have fallen to defeat at St James’ Park.
De Bruyne was put through on goal in the 89th minute but Pope rushed out superbly to deny the City man.

And Hinchcliffe was certainly impressed with the save as he heaped praise on the England international.
, he said: “The timing was so important here once again. [Ilkay] Gundogan breaking from midfield, in acres of space. It’s slightly overhit, which tempts Pope out.
“It’s the timing, he’s got to get his collection of this ball right or it’s a penalty. He’s been excellent.”

The goalkeeper only made the switch from Burnley this summer for a fee worth £10 million () but has quickly become a starter for Howe.
And he’s certainly repaying the faith his boss has shown in him after some eye-catching performances.
Pope made some great saves in Newcastle’s last game against Brighton and came up big once again today.
The Magpies fell behind in the game very early on as Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring. But Howe’s men fought back and went into half-time 2-1 up.

A stunning free-kick from Kieran Trippier put Newcastle two goals up, but City turned on the style and scored two goals in quick succession.
And Pope made some big saves throughout the game which earned his side a hard-fought point in the end.
Howe will certainly be encouraged by his team’s display today as they put in an impressive performance against the champions.
And with a reliable shot stopper like Pope between the sticks, Newcastle could spring some more surprises in big games across the rest of the season.
