‘Excellent’ player is now expected to sign for Arsenal this summer

Arsenal’s summer transfer window is finally up and running.

Indeed, after a month of very little activity, the Gunners have now made their first signing of the summer in the shape of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Kepa could be a great signing for Arsenal, and he may not be the only defensive addition at the Emirates this summer.

Arsenal have been linked to Cristhian Mosquera, and speaking on the Bhavss14 YouTube channel, Ben Jacobs has shared an update on the centre-back.

According to the journalist, Cristhian Mosquera wants to sign for Arsenal and despite no agreement being in place, he expects this deal to get done.

Ben Jacobs expects Cristhian Mosquera to join Arsenal

Jacobs shared an update on Mosquera and Arsenal’s pursuit of the defender.

The reporter expects this deal to get done, and he notes that Arsenal would be very pleased to get this transfer over the line.

“The player wants to join, simple as that. And I expect this deal to get done. That would be three through the door and Arsenal would be very pleased with that,” Jacobs said.

“For Arsenal it’s been about finding someone with a younger profile who is willing to wait a little bit because it’s obvious if William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are fit they will cover those positions.

“This is a profile Arsenal like because they feel he will be patient, he’s versatile, he’s excellent at winning duels, he’s intelligent in reading the game and he covers other positions where he doesn’t traditionally play.”

Arsenal’s centre-back options analysed

Arsenal look set to add another young centre-back to their squad, but this does feel a bit like overkill at this point.

Indeed, Arsenal are incredibly well-stocked in the defence, so much so that it’s hard to justify adding another body to the ranks.

Jakub Kiwior
Ben White
Jurrien Timber
Riccardo Calafiori
Takehiro Tomiyasu

Jakub Kiwior could leave the club, but even then, Arsenal have enough cover from elsewhere.

Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori are all more-often-than-not used as full-backs, but each of those players did make their names as centre-backs before shifting out wide.

Arsenal have plenty of quality defenders before adding Mosquera, and you have to ponder whether the Gunners’ transfer budget would be best used elsewhere rather than adding another centre-half to the ranks.
