‘Excellent’… Manager left amazed by Tottenham loanee’s performance yesterday
Plymouth Argyle boss Ian Foster has singled out Ashley Phillips for praise after the youngster made his debut for the club yesterday.
The Tottenham defender completed a switch to Plymouth earlier this week and is set for a six-month spell in the Championship.
Ashley Phillips was snapped up from Blackburn Rovers over the summer but is very much seen as one for the future at Spurs. The 18-year-old was yet to make a single appearance under Ange Postecoglou this season before heading out on loan.
But he was put straight into the starting XI for Plymouth yesterday and played the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at Huddersfield.

He even earned praise from Allan McInally during his debut, who claimed the defender is going to be a ‘superstar’ while covering the game on Sky Sports.
And his new boss was also impressed with his performance, labelling his first appearance for Plymouth as ‘excellent’.
Foster amazed by Phillips’ Plymouth debut
Speaking to Plymouth’s website, Foster discussed the performances of the two debutants Phillips and Darko Gyabi.
“They were excellent, both of them,” he said. “They fit in the group incredibly well, and that’s credit to the other boys. We’ve welcomed them.
“I don’t look at birth certificates when I pick teams. They’re both teenagers coming into what is a very, very difficult game and I thought they both handled it really, really well.
“Ashley was solid throughout the game. I thought his in-possession game was good, and we’ve seen with Darko what he’s capable of. He’s full of energy. He wants to get on the ball, play forward and break lines.
“Those boys aren’t quite there in terms of match intensity at this level, so that’s great for them to get 90-plus minutes in the legs. They’ll be stronger for it next week.”

Phillips has already been lauded as a ‘’ talent and looks set for a bright future at Spurs.
But with Tottenham snapping up Radu Dragusin this week, it feels like the right move for Phillips to head out and get some valuable first-team experience under his belt.
Before yesterday, the Englishman had only made eight appearances in the Championship for Blackburn.
Spending the next few months in a highly-competitive league as a starter will only benefit the youngster’s development.
