Ex-Tottenham star mocks Mesut Ozil after Arsenal make Europa League exit

Ex-Tottenham star Jermaine Jenas took aim at Arsenal and at Mesut Ozil after the Gunners crashed out of the Europa League last night.

A 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium saw Arsenal exit the competition at the semi-final stage, failing to set up an all-English final with Manchester United.

Prior to the contest, Ozil, now on loan at Fenerbahce, took aim at former Arsenal boss Unai Emery by mocking his accent.

The German performer made light of the Spaniard’s ‘good ebening (evening)’ phrase and tweeted:

Emery had the last laugh, however, getting one back on the club who sacked him following a short time in charge after he replaced the legendary Arsene Wenger.

After the game, Jenas took aim at the former Arsenal playmaker on his Twitter, reciting the phrase used by Ozil before the game.

Plenty of Arsenal fans took the bait and were quick to point out that Tottenham had been knocked out of the competition prior to the Gunners.

Perhaps crucially though, it’s Jenas who will continue the laughing long after the Arsenal faithful have stopped scoring points against the Gunners.

Tottenham are likely to be in Europe again next season, whilst the prognosis for Mikel Arteta looks considerably bleak.

They languish ninth in the Premier League and will need some incredible results – and a bit of luck – to qualify for any European competition next season.

Following Jenas tweeting, plenty of Tottenham fans were in hysterics at just how many Arsenal fans had bitten in response to the former player.

Tottenham are currently sixth in the Premier League and from here they’ll fancy their chances of claiming a European spot next season.

For Arsenal, however, it looks like a long road back towards becoming the dominant force they once were in the English game.

Last night highlighted some serious deficiencies and the buck could now stop with boss Arteta.
